Who do I Work For?
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24 NIV
Is there someone you would do your absolute best work for? Maybe for a famous actor or your favorite athlete? How about for your spouse or parent? Even your immediate supervisor or the big boss, or maybe just for yourself? The Apostle Paul teaches us that Christian living includes doing your work, no matter what it is, for the Lord. You serve the Lord Jesus right there in the job he provided you. What an opportunity to please the Lord with your best work! And not just once, but doing it every time. Suddenly, it’s not just a job, it’s a calling. When the Lord is the one you are working to please, no one needs to watch over you to ensure you give maximum effort. That doesn’t mean your boss won’t still be overseeing you, but it likely will lead to a confidence in your work ethic and your integrity. If you’re having a hard time at work and thinking you need to find a new job, maybe all you need is a renewed mindset, a reminder of who you really are working for.
