Day 3: Unlimited Forgiveness

Why Do I Keep Getting Hurt? · Living With Wisdom · July 11, 2026

Scripture
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” — Matthew 18:21-22 (NIV)
Matthew 18:21-22

Peter thought he was being generous. Jewish tradition only required forgiving three times. Peter doubled it and added one — seven times. But Jesus references Genesis 4, where Lamech declared unlimited revenge: 'If Cain is avenged seven times, then Lamech seventy-seven times.' Jesus flips it completely. Not unlimited revenge. Unlimited forgiveness. This is not a number to count to — it's a posture of the heart. When you realize how much you have been forgiven, counting someone else's offenses becomes impossible. You stop keeping score.

Prayer

Jesus, I've been keeping count. Help me stop. I want to trade my record of wrongs for Your unlimited forgiveness.
