Promised Ridge of Land
Then Israel said to Joseph, “I am about to die, but God will be with you and take you back to the land of your fathers. And to you I give one more ridge of land than to your brothers, the ridge I took from the Amorites with my sword and my bow.” Genesis 48:21-22
Jacob is nearing the end of his life. He has already blessed Joseph’s two sons. He is about to gather his 12 sons around him so he can pronounce blessings over each of them. But, before calling in his sons, he speaks to Joseph, his favorite son, and gives him a ridge of land, this will be one more piece of land than to his brothers. It is odd that Jacob mentions giving more land to Joseph because the promised land is not in his possession yet. Jacob again demonstrates his faith that God will carry out what He promised to Jacob, his father Isaac, and his father Abraham. We should all live with the confidence that God is able to do what He promised.
