This Sunday Ventura Lighthouse 805 is blessed to have guest speaker – Pastor Jake Davis; bringing a special word.

  1. Introduction
    1. Primary focus of Galatians (what is it addressing?)
      – Jesus + nothing is what brings salvation, and true freedom
    2. Context:: Paul isn’t super happy right now. In the previous verses we see him address the notion that he is just a people-pleaser in his gospel message, and here we’ll see that he’s addressing a rumor that he actually has plagiarized bits and pieces of the gospel from the other apostles and created his own version— which would obviously be frustrating.

II. Galatians 1:11-14— Jesus + nothing PRODUCES TRANSFORMATION

1. The word “revelation” in the greek is in an objective form which means that for Paul, it wasn’t that the gospel was being revealed to him by Jesus, The revelation Paul received was Jesus.

2. Vs 13-14— Paul was an incredibly zealous Jew, with an incredible education in the Jewish Law, and he hated the church.

3. Because of Jesus, we are free to change (2 Corinthians 5:17)

III. Galatians 1:15-24—Jesus + nothing PROMPTS TESTIMONY

1. Freedom doesn’t come by a formula

2. Your story is a part of God’s story, you’re not a last minute intrusion on God’s attention

(Jeremiah 1:5)

IV. Galatians 2:1-2, 6b-8— Jesus + nothing PROMOTES UNITY

1. After 14 years, Paul finally connects with the other apostles and shares with the gospel that he’s been preaching to the non-Jewish people. Why? To make sure they line up with each other!.

2. When we make the gospel Jesus + something, we rob ourselves of its true power.

V. Conclusion—3 Questions…

1. How have you been CHANGED {by Jesus}?

2. What’s your STORY {that you need to share}?

3. Who can you ENCOURAGE {on a regular basis}?
