Jesus’ Authority

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 NIV

In the early days of his earthly ministry Jesus encounters a Roman officer with a very sick servant. Jesus tells the officer that he will go to the office’s home and heal the servant. The officer tells Jesus he doesn’t have to go to his home, but just say the word and he knows the servant will be healed. The officer understood Jesus’ authority over all of creation, so just saying the word, activates his healing authority. Jesus proclaimed that he had not seen this level of faithfulness in all Israel. Jesus proclaims to us that “All authority has been given to him”. Will we carry out his command just as the healing of the servant carried out Jesus’ command back then? Let us go to our community, our city, our nation, and out world to make disciples, baptize them, and teach obedience to the Lord.
