Day 1: Carrying What You Were Never Meant To Hold

Why Do I Keep Getting Hurt? · Living With Wisdom · July 11, 2026

Scripture
Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. — Hebrews 12:14-15 (NIV)
Hebrews 12:14-15

Some of us are carrying something we were never meant to hold onto. Something someone did or said to us. And maybe they never apologized. The writer of Hebrews warns about a poisonous root of bitterness — not just because it hurts you, but because it spreads. One person's hidden bitterness can defile many. Today, ask yourself honestly: is there a root of bitterness growing beneath the surface of your life? Let today be the day you start dealing with it — not tomorrow, not when they apologize, but today.

Prayer

Lord, show me any bitter root growing in my heart. I don't want to carry something I was never built to hold. Give me the courage to face it today.
