God has called every believer to something. This message explores how to discover and live out your calling within the body of Christ — serving others with the gifts God has given you.
Ephesians 4:1-6, 1 Peter 4:10-11
Your calling is not just what you do on Sunday — it is who you are every day. God has called you to something. Not just pastors and missionaries. Every believer has been given gifts, and every believer has a part to play in the body. Living out your calling means walking in humility, serving with your gifts, and doing it all for the glory of God.
Paul starts with 'walk worthy of the calling you have received.' He does not say walk perfectly. He does not say walk without mistakes. He says walk worthy. And then he lists what that looks like: complete humility, gentleness, patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit. Your calling is not just about what you do — your calling determines how you walk. The way you treat people is part of your calling.
Peter says each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God's grace. Whatever gift you have received. Not some people. Each of you. Everyone has been given something. Your gift is not about you — it is about serving others. You are a steward of God's grace. The gifts are His. You just get to distribute them.
Peter finishes with this: if anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. The goal of every gift is not your reputation — it is His glory. When you serve with the strength He provides, He gets the credit. That takes the pressure off. You do not have to be enough. He is.
This week, I want you to identify one gift God has given you and use it. Not next month. This week. It might be hospitality — invite someone into your home. It might be encouragement — send a text to someone who needs it. It might be teaching — share what you are learning. And as you use it, ask yourself: am I doing this for my glory or for His? Let that question shape how you serve.
