Day 5: We Had Hoped

Why Isn't God Answering Me? · Living With Wisdom · July 25, 2026

Scripture
He asked them, 'What are you discussing so intently as you walk along?' They stopped short, sadness written across their faces. 'The things that happened to Jesus, the man from Nazareth,' they replied. 'We had hoped he was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel.' — Luke 24:17-18, 21 (NLT)
Luke 24:17-21

'We had hoped.' Past tense. Those are the heaviest words in the Bible. Hope had died on the cross with Jesus. And here is what is remarkable: Jesus lets them tell the whole story. He does not interrupt. He does not correct them. He walks alongside them in their disappointment and lets them pour out their pain. He does the same for you. Your disappointment is not too much for Him. Your doubt does not scare Him. Your 'we had hoped' is a prayer He can handle. He is big enough for your honest grief. And He is still walking beside you through it.

Prayer

Jesus, I have had hopes that felt like they died. You know the ones I am thinking of right now. Thank You that You do not turn away from my pain — You walk with me through it.
