Day 4: Walking to Emmaus

Why Isn't God Answering Me? · Living With Wisdom · July 25, 2026

Scripture
That same day two of Jesus' followers were walking to the village of Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem. As they walked along they were talking about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things, Jesus himself suddenly came and began walking with them. But God kept them from recognizing him. — Luke 24:13-16 (NLT)
Luke 24:13-16

Two disciples walk away from Jerusalem — away from the place where everything fell apart. Seven miles of grief. Seven miles of crushed hopes. Seven miles of 'we had hoped He was the one.' And Jesus walks up and joins them. He does not announce Himself. He does not fix it immediately. He just walks alongside them in their pain. Think about that: in the worst moment of their lives, Jesus was there the whole time. He did not abandon them. He walked with them even when they could not see Him. He is doing the same for you right now. You may not recognize Him, but He has not left your side.

Prayer

Lord, when I am walking through my own Emmaus road — confused, disappointed, hurt — help me trust that You are walking with me even when I cannot see You.
