Day 5: Courage Is Obedience in the Presence of Fear

Why Does Fear Stop Me? · With Authority · September 19, 2026

Scripture
I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God. — 1 Corinthians 2:3-5 (NLT)
1 Corinthians 2:1-5

Paul stayed in Corinth for a year and a half. Fear decreased and faith increased. But notice — Paul did not wait until he felt confident to speak. He spoke while he was afraid, timid and trembling, relying only on the power of the Holy Spirit. Courage is obedience in the presence of fear. Jesus does not need you to feel powerful. He needs you to stay connected to Him and obey what He says. The power is not in your confidence; it is in the Holy Spirit at work through you. You don't have to wait until you feel ready — you just have to speak while you obey.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, I am timid and trembling, but I will speak anyway. Be my power, be my words, and let people trust not in me but in the power of God.
