Day 1: Fear Makes Us Hide

Why Does Fear Stop Me? · With Authority · September 19, 2026

Scripture
Then the angel of the Lord came and sat beneath the great tree at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash of the clan of Abiezer. Gideon son of Joash was threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide the grain from the Midianites. The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, "Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!" — Judges 6:11-12 (NLT)
Judges 6:11-12

The enemy can use fear, worry, and anxiety to stop you from living out your calling. We are all called to love God and love people — but too many believers miss out on half of their calling, only focused on loving God and not reaching out to love and disciple those around them. Look at Gideon: wheat was always threshed on a hill with the wind so the chaff could be blown away and the grain could fall. But Gideon was hiding at the bottom of a winepress, trying to remove the chaff in a place with no wind — a place where the work could never work. Fear makes us hide away ourselves, our calling, and our voice. This week in the With Authority series, we ask the honest question: what has fear pushed me into hiding?

Prayer

Jesus, show me where fear has pushed me into hiding. I don't want to live out of my calling from a hidden place — bring me back into the open and speak Your call over my life.
