Day 6: Scattering Generously

Why Am I Always Stressed About Money? · Living With Wisdom · July 18, 2026

Scripture
One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered. — Proverbs 11:24-25 (ESV)
Proverbs 11:24-25

The Hebrew word for gives freely is literally scatters. The image is a farmer throwing seed broadly across a field. It looks wasteful from the outside. But the farmer knows that what looks like scattering is actually planting. And planting always comes before harvest. People who scatter generously — with their money, their time, their encouragement, their resources — are not losing anything. They are investing. There is a difference between tipping and investing. When you tip, you give a little extra out of what you have left. It does not cost you anything meaningful. When you invest, you put something in deliberately because you believe in what it will produce. Investors do not invest from what is left over. They invest first, on purpose. Most people tip God. Wise people invest in His Kingdom.

Prayer

God, help me stop tipping You from what is left over and start investing in Your Kingdom first. Give me a generous heart that scatters freely, trusting that You will bring the harvest.
