Day 5: The Widow's Offering

Why Am I Always Stressed About Money? · Living With Wisdom · July 18, 2026

Scripture
Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 'Truly I tell you,' he said, 'this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.' — Luke 21:1-4 (NIV)
Luke 21:1-4

Jesus sat across from the temple treasury where there were thirteen trumpet-shaped offering chests. The rich would come and give large sums. You could hear the coins clanging. Then a widow dropped in two lepta — the smallest coins in circulation, worth about six minutes of a day's labor. She had two and she gave both. She could have kept one. Jesus stopped everything to say that woman gave more than everyone combined. Why? Because she gave out of faith. She was saying God, I trust You with everything I have, even when everything I have is almost nothing. Jesus was not watching what people gave. He was watching how they gave. The posture of the heart matters more than the size of the gift.

Prayer

Jesus, give me the faith of the widow. Not to give out of guilt, but to trust You so completely that my giving becomes an act of worship. Help me release what I am holding too tightly.
