Why Am I Always Stressed About Money? · Living With Wisdom · July 18, 2026
The Greek word for cheerful is hilaros — we get our English word hilarious from it. God loves a hilarious giver. Not someone who gives because they have to. Not someone who gives reluctantly — the Greek word lupē means sorrow or pain. God loves someone whose faith is so real that giving feels like celebration, not sacrifice. The reason many people feel financial pressure is not that they give too much. It is that they have never actually tested God's faithfulness on this one. They have done the math on the front end and decided it does not work. God says do it and see. Tithing is not the goal. It is the beginning. The goal is a generous life. Tithing breaks the grip of fear and worry and trusting in money more than trusting in God.
Lord, I want to be a hilarious giver. Remove the reluctance from my heart and replace it with joy. Help me experience the freedom that comes from generous giving.
