Day 3: Test Me in This

Why Am I Always Stressed About Money? · Living With Wisdom · July 18, 2026

Scripture
Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, 'How have we robbed you?' In your tithes and contributions. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. — Malachi 3:8-10 (ESV)
Malachi 3:8-10

Malachi wrote to people who were exhausted and going through the motions. They were giving enough to feel like they were obeying while holding back what they thought they needed. God calls them out directly: You are robbing Me. And then He gives the most remarkable invitation in all of Scripture: Test Me in this. This is the only place in the Bible where God invites you to test Him. Not with your doubts. With your obedience. The Hebrew people had three tithes totaling about 23 percent annually. When God says bring the full tithe, He is asking for the first and best — not the leftovers. The posture of giving first is a declaration: God, You are first in my life.

Prayer

Father, I hear Your invitation to test You. I admit I have sometimes held back, afraid that giving would leave me with less. Help me trust You enough to give first and watch what You do with what remains.
