Day 1: Where Your Treasure Is

Why Am I Always Stressed About Money? · Living With Wisdom · July 18, 2026

Scripture
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. — Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV)
Matthew 6:19-21

Jesus flips conventional wisdom. He does not say where your heart is, there your treasure will follow. He says where your treasure is, there your heart will be. Whatever you are spending on, pouring into, saving for — that is the thing your heart is moving toward. The grip on money is usually not greed. It is fear. Fear of not having enough. Fear of going back to a hard season. The word Jesus uses for store up is thēsaurizō — it means to heap up treasure, to hoard. Jesus is not against money. He is against putting your security and identity into something that can be destroyed. Where you put your treasure is where you put your attention. And you cannot be a person of wisdom and hold your money with a closed fist. A closed fist cannot receive anything new.

Prayer

Lord, show me where my treasure really is. If my heart has been following my money instead of You, redirect me. Help me loosen my grip and trust You with everything I have.
