Day 6: The Sound of a Low Whisper

Where Is Jesus When I'm Anxious and Depressed? · Walking With Faith · August 15, 2026

Scripture
And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. — 1 Kings 19:11-12 (ESV)
1 Kings 19:11-12

God had spoken through fire on Mount Carmel one chapter earlier. But Elijah had just lived through fire, confrontation, noise, pressure, and fear. This time, he needed to encounter God differently — so God spoke to him in gentleness and quietness. Notice how God cares for Elijah step by step: rest and food for his body, honest conversation, God's presence, one next assignment, and a companion named Elisha. God gives him only the next step. That is how Jesus often meets us in anxiety and depression — not always by instantly removing the entire storm, but by giving enough strength for today.

Prayer

Lord, quiet my heart enough to hear Your whisper. Meet me gently today, and show me only the next step I need to take.
