Day 4: What Are You Doing Here?

Where Is Jesus When I'm Anxious and Depressed? · Walking With Faith · August 15, 2026

Scripture
There he came to a cave and lodged in it. And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" He said, "I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away." — 1 Kings 19:9-10 (ESV)
1 Kings 19:9-10

God asks, 'What are you doing here, Elijah?' He is inviting Elijah to tell the truth. Elijah is honest — but he is also seeing life through exhaustion, fear, and isolation. He says, 'I am the only one left.' Later God tells him there are still 7,000 people who have not bowed to Baal. Elijah's feelings are real, but his feelings are not telling him the whole truth. Your feelings are real, but they are not always reliable. Faith is not hiding your stuff from God. Faith is bringing what you're really going through to God.

Prayer

Jesus, this is what is really happening in me. I feel afraid. I feel exhausted. I feel alone. I do not know what to do. Please meet me here.
