Day 3: Cultivate and Guard

Is Jesus Really With Me at Work? · Walking With Faith · August 1, 2026

Scripture
The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. — Genesis 2:15 (NIV)
Genesis 2:15

The Hebrew words for 'work it and take care of it' are abad and shamar. Abad means to serve, to cultivate. Shamar means to watch over, protect, guard. Before Adam ever sinned, he was given something to build and something to guard. This is still your calling. A parent builds their kids up and protects them. A student builds their skills and protects their future. Work is anything God has entrusted you to cultivate and to guard. The best thing you can do today is look around and see what needs to be served and protected by you. That is your literal calling right now.

Prayer

Jesus, show me today what You have entrusted me to cultivate and what I need to guard. Help me serve it well and protect it faithfully.
