Day 4: You Are Not Only Your Shame

How Do I Bring Jesus Into My Family Drama? · Walking With Faith · August 8, 2026

Scripture
But the father said to the servants, 'Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And bring the fattened calf we have been saving. We will kill it and have a feast, because this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.' — Luke 15:22-24 (NLT)
Luke 15:20-24

The father refuses to let sin become the younger son's only identity. You are not only the divorce. You are not only the addiction. You are not only the mistake, the angry outburst, the absence, or the failure. The story of the prodigal son is not the story of a failure who got lucky — it is the story of a father who refuses to define his son by the worst thing he did. The same is true for you. Your family story may include things you are ashamed of, but Jesus meets you there and calls you back to who you are: a beloved son or daughter of God.

Prayer

Lord, I have let shame define me for too long. Help me hear Your voice over the voice of my worst mistakes. I am not only my shame — I am Your child.
