Day 6: A Man Just Like Us

Scripture

Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops. — James 5:17-18 (NLT)

James uses a Greek word, homoiopathēs — someone with the same human limitations, emotions, and weaknesses as us. Elijah was not a prayer superhero. He was a human being who trusted God enough to pray. Peter and John trusted that the same Jesus who healed, forgave, delivered, and restored people during His earthly ministry was still alive and still had authority. You can trust Him the same way today.

Prayer

Jesus, You know how human I am. I get tired, I get discouraged, and I still want to believe. Be patient with me, and keep me trusting in Your name.
