Day 6: Building a Legacy That Lasts

Am I Wasting My Life? · Living With Wisdom · July 4, 2026

Scripture
By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved — even though only as one escaping through the flames. — 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 (NIV)
1 Corinthians 3:10-15

Paul talks about building on the foundation of Jesus with gold, silver, and precious stones — or with wood, hay, and straw. On the final day, the fire will test what kind of work each of us has built. The question isn’t whether you’re building — everyone is building something. The question is what you’re building with. Are you building with intentionality or just filling time? What are you passing on to the people around you? Faith or fear? Peace or panic? Generosity or selfishness? Presence or distraction? You are depositing something into the people around you every single day.

Prayer

Jesus, help me build my life on the foundation of who You are. Let my work be gold, silver, and precious stones — things that will last for eternity.
