Scripture
Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. The man who had received five bags went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. The man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! You should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.’ And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. — Matthew 25:14-16, 18, 26-27, 30 (NIV)
Matthew 25:14-30
In the ancient world, a single talent was worth about $4.5M in today’s economy. The servant who received one talent was not given a small gift — he was handed a life-changing amount. And he buried it. Not out of evil, but out of fear. He was so afraid of losing it that he never used it. And Jesus called that wasted. God is not asking whether you were given enough — He is asking what you did with what you had. Your gifts, your relationships, your story, your platform, your faith, your kids, your neighborhood — it all matters. What are you building with it?
Prayer
Lord, I don’t want to bury what You’ve given me. Give me faith to invest it, courage to risk it, and wisdom to use it for Your kingdom.
