Day 2: Moses in the Wilderness

Am I Wasting My Life? · Living With Wisdom · July 4, 2026

Scripture
Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. You turn people back to dust, saying, ‘Return to dust, you mortals.’ A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. — Psalm 90:1-2, 3-4, 12 (NIV)
Psalm 90:1-12

Moses wrote Psalm 90 while watching an entire generation slowly die in the wilderness — funeral after funeral, year after year. He had spent 40 years in Pharaoh’s palace, then 40 years as a shepherd, then led Israel out of Egypt only to watch them refuse to enter the Promised Land. From that place of disappointment, he didn’t write bitterness — he wrote about the brevity of life and the faithfulness of God. Your current circumstances don’t have to dictate your perspective. Even in the wilderness, you can gain a heart of wisdom.

Prayer

Father, when I feel like I’m wandering, help me remember that You are still teaching me. Give me wisdom in every season, even the hard ones.
