Living With Wisdom · Week 1

I Don't Know What to Do

Matt Russell · June 6, 2026

When you don't know which way to go, God's wisdom is available. This message kicks off the Living With Wisdom series by exploring how to trust God when the path isn't clear.

Key Scripture

Proverbs 3:5-6

Key Points

  • Wisdom begins with trusting God, not having all the answers
  • God promises to guide those who acknowledge Him
  • Uncertainty is an invitation to lean in, not check out

Quotes to Remember

“You don't need to know the whole path — just the next step with Him.”
“God is not confused about your future.”

Sermon Notes

Big Idea

God does not say figure it out yourself — He says if you need wisdom, ask Me and I will give it. But we often panic and make decisions from fear, or ask people before we ask God when prayer should be our first place for wisdom.

01

Do Not Let Panic Make Your Decisions

Proverbs 14:12

There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. It can look good. It can feel good. It can make sense to you in the moment. But just because something seems right does not mean it is wise. There are things that feel right because you are angry, scared, tired, lonely, or want to avoid pressure. Fear wants us to do something now. And Wisdom wants us to trust God enough to slow down.

“Fear wants us to do something now. And Wisdom wants us to trust God enough to slow down.”
02

Ask God Before You Ask Everybody Else

James 1:5

He says ask God. And God gives generously. He is a Father. A good father does not get angry when his child asks, Can you help me? Sometimes kids ask for help and then do not listen. It is possible to ask God for wisdom and still reject the wisdom He gives.

“Prayer should not be our last resort. Prayer should be the first place wisdom begins.”
03

Obey the Next Right Step

Psalm 119:105

God does not always show us the whole road. Sometimes He gives us enough light for the next step. A lamp in Bible times was not like a modern spotlight. It was not headlights on a car. It was a small oil lamp. It gave enough light to see the step in front of you. That matters because sometimes we want God to show us the whole journey.

“God is waiting on us to finish making the turn like GPS.”

Application

This week, I want you to think about one decision in your life where you need wisdom. Not ten. One. And I want you to pray three questions: God, what are You saying? God, what does Your Word already say? God, what is the next right step? And then here is the hard part: When He shows you, obey. Because the goal is not just to get wisdom. The goal is to live with wisdom.
