The storms of life will come, but Jesus is in the boat with us. He is not afraid of the wind and the waves, and He has not left us to face them alone.
Mark 4:35-41, Psalm 46:1-3
When the disciples were terrified in the storm, Jesus was asleep in the boat. He was not worried. When they woke Him, He spoke to the wind and the waves, and there was perfect calm. But the real miracle is not just that the storm stopped — it is that Jesus was with them the whole time. He is with you in your storm too. Not distant. Not unaware. Right there in the boat.
Jesus said to His disciples, 'Let us go over to the other side.' He did not say 'let us stay here where it is safe.' He led them into the boat knowing the storm was coming. And when the storm hit, where was Jesus? In the boat. Asleep on a cushion. He was not caught off guard. He was not surprised by the wind. He was not afraid. He was at peace because He knew exactly what was happening. And He knew how it would end. The same is true for you. Jesus is in your boat. He is not panicking. You can trust Him.
The disciples wake Jesus with a question that we have all asked: 'Teacher, do You not care that we are going to drown?' They thought He was indifferent. They thought His sleep meant He did not care. But sleep is not indifference. It is trust. He trusted the Father. And He knew that the storm was not the end of the story. When you ask God 'do You not care?' — He does. He cares deeply. His silence is not indifference. It is a different kind of trust. He is asking you to trust Him in the storm.
Jesus stood up and rebuked the wind and the sea. 'Peace! Be still!' And the wind died down. It was completely calm. Then He turned to His disciples and asked: 'Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?' The disciples were terrified — not of the storm now, but of Jesus. 'Who is this?' they asked. 'Even the wind and the waves obey Him!' That is the question you need to answer. Who is this Jesus? If He has authority over creation, He has authority over your storm. The question is not whether the storm will obey Him. The question is whether you will trust Him.
This week, when the storm comes — and it might — I want you to do something different. Do not panic first and pray second. Pray first. Say out loud: 'Jesus, I know You are in this boat with me. I choose to trust You before I try to fix this myself.' And then watch what He does. He might calm the storm. He might calm you. Either way, He is enough.
